If there is only a single rotary siphon or stationary siphon and a single set of operating conditions, choosing the right siphon for optimum performance will be very easy. In order to choose the best siphon system, calculations must be made carefully. By using the optimum system, heat transfer rate increases and this assures higher machine speeds and higher production speeds. Stability in the heat transfer rate will increase the quality of the product.
Generally siphon and rotary joint sizing thought to be easy. Actually all calculations must be taken in great care. If the system is calculated smaller, pressure drop in the cylinder will be very high and it won't be possible to have sufficient flow to keep the fluid lower inside the cylinder. Because of the high pressure drop, velocity of the medium will be very high. If the system is sized too high; energy will be inefficient and bigger and expensive systems will be needed.
CONDENSATE BEHAVIOURS
As dryer begins to turn, condensate start to move up the shell. As the speed increases condensate starts to cascade and more condensate moves upper levels of shell. As sufficient speed reached, solid film of condensate occurs in the shell and covers the inside wall of the shell.

Applications show that max. heat transfer is assured when condensate is in full cascade condition. As the speeds increase, condensate begins to rim. In order to keep the condensate in cascade condition,
ROTOBARS are used.
